Recite in the name of your Lord who created -96.1
Islam is one
of the most widespread religions in the world. It spread because of its beauty
and peace. Muslim can learn about Islam everywhere and of the most suitable
place to learn Islam and learn about world’s knowledge is in the International
Islamic Malaysia (IIUM). IIUM is one of the most prestigious universities in
the world including Malaysia and other countries. Here, people will learn
various kinds of knowledge such as science, mathematics, law and also Islamic
knowledge.
As for the
knowledge, IIUM didn’t lack anything in providing its students with good and
updated knowledge. Even though IIUM bears the name of Islamic university but it
didn’t failed in providing sophisticated knowledge that equal to another famous
university in Malaysia and outside Malaysia.
One of the
good things that IIUM have that differentiate it from the other university is the
Islamization of knowledge. When we learn here, all of our lectures from various
Kuliyyah taught us that all knowledge can be seen and learned in Islamic ways.
So, this makes us to think the greatness of ALLAH S.W.T and his creations and
knowledge.

The years I have spent in IIUM had taught me a lot of things. One of it is to always look things from a different perspective. I have involved in theatres and short film along my journey here. These two medium have always been frown upon by some people saying that it is not good and useless in nature as it focuses on entertainment. However, being a part of the theatre taught me that this mean of entertainment is actually not for entertainment per se. IIUM inserted the Islamic values into these medium of entertainment and most of the story that had been presented have exquisite moral values. In a way, theatre can be considered as dakwah as long as it follows the Islamic guidelines. It really gives a heartfelt pleasure when you know you have done something right. Dakwah is not an easy thing to do but through theatre, you can do good deeds as well as entertain others. J

For me, I
think that this university is very good in shaping my attitude. I enter this
university in the year of 2008 (2 years in CFSIIUM and 4 years in IIUM). In the
university, I’m taking Bachelor of English Language and Literature. So, I
learned all the basis knowledge about English including its history, literature
and grammar. Previously, I learned in Arabic based school and I didn’t pay much
attention towards the English language. I thought that, this language is very
difficult to learn and also this is a language of foreign and non-Muslim
language. But, deep in my heart, I kind like of English language but I didn’t know
much in how to improve my English. But, all of these changes when I learned in
IIUM. Even though, we have been taught about western literature but our
lecturers on behalf of IIUM taught us on how to Islamize these kinds of
knowledge. They said that, all of knowledge in this world came from ALLAH and
we can learn all of it. The most important thing is how we perceive the
knowledge and how we connect the knowledge to our Creator. So, this is what has
been taught by my lecturers in IIUM. I really like this way of learning and
perceiving things with Islamic point of view. In short, IIUM had given me a lot
of meaningful things that can assist my life here and hereafter.

Based from my experience, I feel so lucky to be able to set my foot here in
IIUM and learn so many valuable things. Before, I was a student in UiTM and I
never had the opportunity to get involve in programs and activities. Even in my
assignments, only little touch on the Islamic perspective. In my opinion I have
made the right choice to change course and continue to further my understanding
in Islamic values. i don't mean that studying in UiTM is bad but is is to my own fault that i don't want to get close to it myself. I feel so sad that along the years in UiTM, I failed to manage
my own time to learn about Islamic values. Alhamdulillah, even the smallest
thing that I have done here taught me to be strong and believing in the right
path is always the righteous path. I am so thankful to all my lecturers that
guide me and made me who I am today. I feel so grateful for every knowledge
that I gain consciously or unconsciously, I will cherish it all my life.

In my years as an undergraduate in IIUM, it is somehow change my life
particularly in my views and perspective towards certain things. I learned a
lot regarding Islamic perspective because the exposures somehow are more
specific and particular which I never explore before outside of IIUM. Even
though I am an English major, it does not mean that I am not aware with the
Islamic surrounding, offering a knowledge which I never thought of
comprehending and somehow I manage to improve myself through it formally or
informally.
